Vendor Highlight - Emily Saunders Photography

I had the pleasure of meeting Emily at a local coffee shop and talking all things weddings. Emily is such a sweet person and very talented. She is a local photographer in New Bern, NC, and loves serving her community and travelling the country. If you are looking for a wedding photographer or a photographer for a family session, I highly recommend Emily Saunders Photography. Below are a few questions and answers to get to know Emily better, and things to think about regarding wedding photography.

1) What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?

  • I've always loved taking pictures! I was the girl with a camera-in-hand at school & events in high school. I would save up my money & buy cameras - each one a little nicer than the last.

  • I was a teacher for 5 years, & in children's ministry for 2 years, before transitioning into photography full-time.

  • I love the excitement & energy of weddings, I love being able to connect with brides & grooms & artfully capture their love story. I love that we get to continue the relationship into family photography as their family grows!

2) On average, how long does it take for you to edit all of the photos after a wedding?

  • I'd say anywhere between 15 & 20 hours! I typically break the day into sections & work through each piece by piece. I'll do a round of preliminary edits, start with portraits, release a few sneak peeks, then work through getting ready & detail shots, group portraits, & finally work on the reception photos last. I'll upload to the gallery site & review the entire gallery with fresh eyes after a day or so, checking for overall consistency. I usually write a page of notes for edits & changes at this stage, and return to the RAW files to make those final edits. Black & White copies are one of the final steps!

3) What are a few questions couples should ask their photographer before booking?

  • Be sure to ask your photographer about their posing process, how they go about handling the family portrait hour, what's included in their packages & price, and how they're backing up your photos!

4) What helpful tips do you have for couples on their wedding day when it comes to capturing the perfect moments?

  • Trust your vendors. You've invested in them for a reason! It's time to relax & have fun on your wedding day! Trust everyone to do their jobs & allow you to enjoy each moment of the day! It goes by QUICKLY! Soak it all up!

  • Your photographer should be looking out for precious moments to swing in & snag!

5) Include any educational information you would like for couples to know about leading up to their wedding and on wedding day.

  •  If you've got a specific vision for your photos, be sure you're finding a photographer who matches that vision in terms of posing & editing style, & SHARE your photo priorities with them! :)

  • Give your photographer a list for family photos! Prepare that for them in advance so you don't have to worry about forgetting to take a photo with Uncle Jim!
